July 2024 Round-Up: Do you know your Go To Market Motions?

Do you know your go to market motions? How about how you could use AI to improve your sales process and close more leads? Here's a refresher.

At Roadmap, we create and execute our customers' go-to-market (GTM) strategies. The term GTM is becoming commonplace, but have you heard of go-to-market motions? In this newsletter, we break it down for you.

Go-to-market (GTM) motions are strategic approaches companies use to bring their products or services to market and engage with potential customers. Here are the key types of GTM motions:

  1. Inbound-led: This motion focuses on attracting customers through valuable content and experiences. It typically involves marketing tactics like creating blog posts, webinars, and social media content, which help educate the market and establish authority.
  2. Outbound-led: This approach involves proactively reaching out to potential customers. It includes creating target customer lists, cold-calling, email sequences, and networking, which can be particularly effective for directly targeting high-value prospects.
  3. Partner-led: This motion leverages partnerships to expand reach and build trust. Partners can provide additional sales channels, enabling companies to scale their reach and leverage the credibility of their partners.
  4. Community-led: This approach focuses on building and nurturing a community around the product or brand. Engaging with a community can create a loyal customer base that advocates for the brand, driving organic growth.
  5. Product-led: Also known as the bottom-up approach, this motion relies on the product itself to drive growth. It often involves offering a free sample or test version of the product, allowing potential customers to experience its value firsthand.
  6. Event-led: This motion centers around organizing and participating in events to engage with potential customers. Events can be a powerful way to demonstrate products, network, and build relationships.

Companies often use a combination of these motions to create a comprehensive GTM strategy. For example, an inbound strategy can support outbound efforts by providing valuable content that sales teams can share with leads. Integrating partner-led strategies can enhance community-led efforts by tapping into established networks and communities. The choice of motions depends on factors such as the company's stage, target audience, and product complexity.
